Don’t be afraid to put your fingers in dirt
I spent the weekend gardening with my fiance. At first I wasn’t too crazy about the idea of spending the weekend slaving in our yard. (My idea of a perfect weekend is a combination of city and outdoor activities with great dinner at a non-chain restaurant then dancing the night away) But as soon as we started working in the yard, we couldn’t stop. We worked for 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday. It was so much fun that we didn’t want to stop. This is the first time this season we started to work in our yard. I forgot how good it felt to touch the dirt. Really!
We went to Home Depot and stocked our car with flowers and plants. We started an herb garden, planted lavender bushes, then moved around the perennials. Since this is the first Spring since we moved into our new home, we are not sure what all the green sprouts will become. I look forward to see it grow every day. I feel like a kid every couple of days whenever I explore through my yard to see what is peaking out of the ground. So far we had lots of Tulips. They are so beautiful. So much so that I had to cut some and bring it in the house so that I can look at it all the time.
If you haven’t done so, I invite you to touch dirt. Whether it is repotting plants or planting flowers, I guarantee that somehow the feeling of dirt in your fingers will make your heart smile and all of the sudden realize that life shouldn’t be so hectic after all.
Happy Spring!
